Just got Google’s Chromium O/S Beta running on my Netbook (Asus EEE PC 701 4G). I took a picture of it with my camera, connected it to the EEE PC, and uploaded and made this post in Chromium O/S without any problems.

Booting into Chromium O/S takes about 8 seconds off of a 4GB USB stick, and shutdowns take about 5 seconds. When compared to a 30+ boot-up and 30+ second shutdown time with a Windows 7 Netbook, it’s almost laughable, especially if your just turning on your computer to check a quick site or e-mail.

Ahh yes Window$, they love to make you wait and look at their pretty shutdown screens. It’s funny, I bet they pay someone a pretty penny making the shutdown screen background and animation look nice and relaxing to keep user frustration down. Oh yeah, and the whole ugly “Your system was shutdown improperly” crap could be avoided if they could just shut down their processes properly and keep users from waiting 1-2 minutes to shutdown until they finally give up and hold down the power button.

With the first Chromium OS beta release build, my EEE PC 701′s WiFi, touchpad, and sound worked out of the box without any trouble. Streaming YouTube and Hulu videos works fine using it’s built in Adobe Flash 10 (video is a little choppy, probably due to the processor speed of my “little Netbook that could”, but it’s usable).

I’m eager to see what else Google has in mind in an Operating System. From looking over their Security Overview document, I’m sure it’ll up the par for what consumers should expect from an Operating System (especially with regards to keeping you safe on the big-bad Internet).
